Last week, I attended Rachel Anastasi's Coach Propulsion Program and part of my prelearning pack was this book which Rachel sent to me. At first I thought, ‘Why on earth is she sending this to me? I lost 20 kilograms last year and I really don't need to lose any more'. Then I read it. Subtitled ‘The Thinking Person's Diet' this book is not only about dieting, it is about maintaining your weight once you get there. I have to agree with Susie that sometimes this is harder than losing the weight itself. Susie put a new slant on weight loss by calling food an addiction - just like smoking, drugs and alcohol and anyone who has trouble losing weight will identify with that analogy. Food is often eaten to cope with stress, as I am finding in coaching women after the bushfires in Victoria. Once you start relying on food for comfort, any little problem will send you to the chocolate biscuits. Somehow, you have to break the cycle. How do you shift your thinking? Suzie comes up with a great metaphor. Decide what type of sports car you'd like to look like. Is it the Jaguar, the Ferrari, or maybe the Porsche? Then the way you treat your body should be the same as you would treat your car. You'd make sure you gave it the right fuel wouldn't you? You'd keep it clean, well polished and hopefully under cover and why should anything be different for your beautiful body? Each chapter of this book has a slightly different focus, depending where you are in your weight loss journey. There's a section on how to set your mind to losing weight and others on how to get your body into shape, setting goals, and strengthening your willpower. The last third of the book includes interviews with people like Trevor Hendy and Jeff Fenech , plus recipes which have helped Susie in her own quest to maintain weight. If you need to look at losing weight with different eyes, ‘Half My Size' will certainly get you thinking. Why not try it and let me know what you think?
