WHEN WE THINK WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OUR WEIGHT, WE CREATE THE PROBLEM. JOANNE PRIOR EXPLAINS... How does carrying extra weight make you feel? Do you feel uncomfortable? Do you feel like you are not being the best you can be? Does it erode your happiness and joy? Do you wish it could be easy to just eat, be lean, well and gorgeous? You are not alone. Given that the 2007-2008 National Health Survey showed 68% of men and 55% of women in Australia were overweight or obese, this suggests that over half our population are feeling just like you. Why then do so many of us struggle constantly with eating and our weight? What I have discovered from working with many individuals is the fact they think they have a problem with their eating and weight and that is the cause of their struggle with food and weight. Let me explain! If you think you are something then you become who you think you are. So, if you think you are an ‘overeater' or you ‘don't know when to stop eating' or you are ‘useless and hopeless and can never get it ‘right''. Then guess what? This is exactly what you become. No matter how vibrant, brilliant and healthy you are at your core. It is who you think you are that dictates the actions you take and the eating and body you design. It becomes important then to align your thinking to match who you truly are. Many of my clients have had success with these two important steps: The first step is actually thinking yourself out of the problem and into alignment with who you truly are. So who are you? In my experience at the core of every client I meet is a ‘Magnificence' that is theirs to be expressed in their unique way. This ‘Magnificence' contains an imprint of how to eat and exercise that is ‘right' and fits best for the individual. It is rewarding, satisfying and fulfilling and ensures that only ‘Magnificent' health, well-being and looks result. Add the statement ‘I am Magnificent' to your daily ‘self-talk' and start to live your Magnificence. The mind is then filled with the practicalities of ‘how to' eat in a way that is authentic, ‘right' and best for you. In living your ‘Magnificence' you would not hurt yourself or eat more than you need or exercise less than you need. You would want only the best for you. The second step is to persist with your new mind-set - even if you think ‘this is not working' or ‘I feel worse not better'. Often when you start to think ‘Magnificently' it challenges your old mind-set, so when you start to shift your focus it can ‘hold on tight before it lets go'. This is a natural part of any process of change. If you are aware of this to begin with then you will flow more smoothly through this stage. As you persist and stick with your new mind-set, you will notice gradually how differently you start to feel around food and eating. You will start to notice that your mind and energy are no longer pre-occupied with thinking or trying to not think about food, eating (or not eating) and having to lose weight. For your mind is focused in a healthy, constructive and positive way. So the need to eat more food than you actually require starts to evaporate and you lose the cravings for those foods you think you should not be eating. What you gain is the ability to wisely control your eating without being controlling. And, importantly, not only do you find the key to weight loss you have found the key to maintaining a healthy weight range. This is just as important as losing the weight itself. You are free to think anything you choose about who you think you are or could be... Remember you are nothing short of ‘Magnificent'.
